The 4th of July holiday is only days away; however, Kanye West decided to get things going early this year.
Initially reported by TMZ, Mr. West is allegedly leaving Jay-Z‘s Tidal streaming service over being owed more than $3 million dollars, not receiving a bonus for the 1 million plus subscribers he brought to the company from his album The Life of Pablo, and not being compensated for music videos from it.
Over the past month, Kanye and Tidal’s lawyers have been in a back and forth over finding a middle ground to negotiate the terms of the contract, which Kanye’s representatives felt had been breached. After two weeks of contact, Kanye’s lawyers sent an official notice to declare the contract had been terminated.
Yet, Tidal believes that Kanye is in the wrong. Reportedly, Kanye did not deliver on the number of music videos required to fulfill the contract. This is in addition to the album appearing on other streaming services after it was planned to be an exclusive release to Tidal.
Currently, it is at the point where both sides are threatening to sue if either decided to breach the contract. To add more fuel to the fire, all of this occurred before the release of Jay-Z’s newest album 4:44 which has some bars seemingly aimed at Kanye and the relationship between both artists.
In the song titled “Kill Jay-Z“, Hov appears to respond to Kanye’s on-stage rant from his Saint Pablo tour:
You gave him 20 million without blinkin’
He gave you 20 minutes on stage, f*** was he thinkin’?
“F*** wrong with everybody?” is what you sayin’
But if everybody’s crazy, you’re the one that’s insane
While the public may never truly know what goes on behind closed doors it is disheartening to see this relationship between the two appear to deteriorate as time goes on. As Kanye West stated before about Jay-Z in his 2007 song “Big Brother” off the album Graduation.
I guess big brother was thinkin’ a little different
And kept little brother at bay, at a distance
But everything that I felt was more bogus
Only made me more focused, only wrote more potent
Kanye as everyone knows, has never been afraid to state how he feels and what he means. However, Ye should have taken his own advice and went to Jay-Z to discuss like he said in “Big Brother” before:
Then I went and told Jay Brown
Shoulda known that was gonna come back around
Shoulda talked to you like a man, shoulda told you first
But I told somebody else and that’s what made s*** worse
If nothing less expect some heat to come from Kanye as a response when the time comes. Hopefully these two can work this out.
