The Boy Illinois On First Time Opening For Lupe Fiasco: "I was just amazed"

The ink just dried on a distribution deal with Priority Records and The Boy Illinois is already hard at work. Last week, the Chicago lyricist dropped his debut single “Dancing Like Diddy.”

“Dancing Like Diddy” was produced by Issac James and Illi takes his fans back to the 90’s tributing to fun times where music mogul “Diddy” was known for dancing in the videos.

The Boy Illinois shouts out DLow representing Chi town style dance and spits on the high energy track staking his claim to the city. With his upcoming video dropping late June, the single is just a snapshot into what is setting him apart in the industry, clever and catchy hooks with lyrical finesse.

The Boy Illinois has been progressing over the years. On a recent conversation on Scoop B Radio Overtime, The Boy Illinois and I talked about how cool it was to open up concerts for fellow Chicago lyricist, Lupe Fiasco. “It was amazing,” The Boy Illinois told me about opening for Lupe Fiasco on Scoop B Radio.

“First of all, that’s one of my favorite artists. It was dope because he is one of my favorite artists and it was like: ‘damn I’m about to open up the whole tour for this guy.’ And you just soak up game. Like the first show in Atlanta, I just sat and watched his whole set up and sound check like I was just amazed. I had never been at a level of this magnitude. So I’m trying to learn everything that I can but then after like the 10th show it was like: ‘I don’t even want to see your show no more because it’s the same shit every night.’ But after a while you kind of get the hang of it and I’m a quick learner and I pick up things quick.”
