TDE seems to drop projects at an alarming rate between the label’s main stars. Schoolboy Q, Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul and so forth all release albums one after another in succession. Missing from that rotation though, is songstress SZA. SZA hasn’t dropped in roughly 3 years, and that’s far too long for an artist of her caliber. The wait is over, and her debut Ctrl is here.
After delays, false starts, empty release dates, and even SZA publicly lashing out at TDE, we’ve received her album in all its glory — 14 tracks that feature the likes of Kendrick, Travis $cott, Isaiah Rashad and more. Led by the great track “Love Galore,” Ctrl is a great statement from SZA.
Track after track, SZA gives us a peek into her mind and proves she shouldn’t have been on the shelf as long as she was. If she was trying to make an album for women, she did just that with bangers such as “Go Gina,” “Normal Girl” and the Kendrick-assisted “Doves In The Wind” (the latter cut being a standout for sure). Her infectious voice over lush beats mixed with her subject matter carry her through the project, and will continue to take her far.
Enjoy Ctrl above.
