The past two days have been the definition of “memorable” for the state of Missouri. After producing two NBA first rounders in Jayson Tatum and OG Anunoby, the state’s musicians chose to end this week on a high note by teasing and releasing fire tracks.
Last night, in the midst of the draft drama, St. Louis native and super-producer, Metro Boomin, took to Instagram where he posted a picture of what looks to be the cover art for an upcoming single or project. With no further details, other than the caption of “tomorrow night #haterswillsayitsphotoshopped” this anticipation has rap fans on the edge of their seats for what might happen later today.

While Metro decided to keep fans in suspense, Smino (another product of St. Louis) dove straight into the ears of listeners when he dropped his single “Kompany” featuring Phoelix. This track produced by Monte Booker is full of soulful energy that is matched by Phoelix’s chorus and Smino’s cleverly laced lyrics. Sticking true to his Missouri roots, Smino uses vernacular and name drops places that are only noticed by local listeners, yet his flow and voice patterns can keep any fan interested.
The release of “Kompany” as well as the possibility of a Metro Boomin sighting, cap off the incredible week Missouri has been having throughout sports and entertainment. This prosperous run will hopefully shed a bright light on the Show-Me. And for a state still reeling from the damage of the Ferguson Shooting and Mizzou Hunger Strike, this positivity is not only long overdue, it’s much need.
