Rory Fresco is a fresh upcoming artist that is putting on for his city in a big way, while setting the standards for the new era with a smooth mixture of R&B and hip hop. Since 2016, this young and talented artist’s name has been gaining heavy momentum throughout the internet and making waves while putting the spotlight on Kansas City. Many people quickly took a liking to Rory after hearing his breakout single “Lowkey”; this, I’m sure, motivated the rising emcee to push forward. In return, Rory dropped a new full project entitled Teen Spirit, which features twelve original tracks that touch on many different subjects…the production on this project brings it all together, making for a stellar mixtape.
This week, I caught up with the Kansas city native to talk about his new release.

RESPECT.: What’s up! So how’s the day treating you so far?
Rory Fresco: I’m super good. Life’s treating me well right now. I can’t complain at all. I feel like I reached a new level in 2017.
RESPECT.: So you’ve just released the full project Teen Sprit and listeners seem to be receiving the project well. First off, what’s the story behind your decision on the title?
Man, I just feel like I didn’t really get to experience being a teenager. I was quiet in high school, I didn’t play sports, I didn’t go to prom. I was just anti social. So basically I feel over this past year since I started poppin, this has been me having fun and living out my final teenage years. And I put that all within a project. So that’s how Teen Spirit came about.
RESPECT.: This project touches on many different styles and the production is just too die for, and some artists find that intimidating. For you, what were some of things that helped you move forward while making this project?
Real experiences. Waking up and telling you what happened the night before or what went through my mind when I went to bed that night. It’s all so honest that it came so natural.
RESPECT.: Name one of your favorite lyrics from Teen Spirit and why.
“Dropped out of college for other dreams, I’m like fuck tuition…” Bro, this lyric means a lot to me because it’s like damn. I really passed on going to school because I’m crazy enough to believe that my dream will work. And I have not proved myself wrong yet. I’m on a one way road right now. I can’t turn back.
RESPECT.: The mixtape artwork is a big thing in hip hop, and — honestly — I think yours could be a game changer. What inspired the artwork behind Teen Spirit?
It’s basically the moodboard I had for this project. It’s a collage of some of the pictures I would put inside my inspiration folder. I created it myself and it just gives off a youthful vibe. Those flames are made to look like the old leather beaded rockstar belts. It really just sets a ‘fye’ ass mood (laughs). No pun.
RESPECT.: There seems to be some talk of a tour coming for you in the upcoming future. Is this true, and can you touch on this?
Man, it’s in the works. I’m still working on it. I wanna see where the project takes me and I want to make sure I can give people the best show they have seen. So i’m taking my time with it.
RESPECT.: How would you like to see yourself as an artist in the upcoming years?
I want to sell out the 02 Arena in London. I want to be in movies. I want to do the unthinkable off tops. And I’ma open my own burger joint too. It’s gonna look real 80’s diner like. Lit lit lit.
