At this point, Grime is acknowledged all over the world, thanks to massive strides by artists like Skepta and Stormzy over the past couple of years. Unfortunately, many outsiders don’t know how to differentiate Grime from other styles found in the UK — most notably Road Rap, a close cousin to America’s Gangsta Rap that delivers colorful, hard-hitting tales of real life on the streets of London and beyond.
For their latest documentary, Noisey dives into the Road Rap scene (for lack of a better word), currently led by the likes of Giggs (who is seeing his own global stock rise thanks to Drake), Krept & Konan, Nines, C-Biz, Potter Payper and more. More recently, Section Boyz and 67 (the latter of whom have adopted their own version of Chicago’s Drill music) have stepped up for the new generation.
Enjoy the 30-plus-minute documentary above (hosted by legendary artist Mike Skinner of The Streets) and check out the accompanying editorial over at Noisey.
