BZZY meanders into familiar territory with “Crazy Love,” analyzing the complexities of a recent downtrodden relationship by way of obsessiveness and paranoia. The raw and realistic take on relationships is a relatively unknown topic covered in hip-hop music; clearly, BZZY’s uninterested in having a surface level conversation about why this relationship went awry. Instead, he wants the listener to drown in a sea of intricate facts about his strained relationship: “We haven’t had sex in four months, and three weeks, and two days/But who’s counting?” Additionally, as shown with this line, BZZY adds some dark humor in his bitter rants, adding to the common practice of his comedy to diffuse anxious situations such as breakups.
The music video harkens back to the last episode in season one of Black Mirror, “The Entire History of You,” which revolves around a technology known as a “grain” which allows users to replay their memories, pausing, zooming, analyzing, and reliving them as they choose. A wary husband uses this same technology to try and confirm whether or not his wife is cheating on him. No spoilers given, but the same paranoia of the male lead, Liam, is the same which infected BZZY at the end of his tumultuous relationship. Jeers at his income, lack of intimacy, and a waning connection warranted him to be suspicious of another man. “When I found out, I was dumb hot/Then a gunshot changed his jumpshot.”
Obviously, in all aspects of life, setbacks won’t stop him. BZZY told FADER:
“Take however long it takes to better yourself. Sometimes you got to fall back to come back.”
“Crazy Love” is off of A Part of Everything, which includes “If Only You Knew,” with Lloyd. You can stream the project here and follow BZZY, fka Bizzy Crook, on Twitter and Instagram.
