Surpassing even Adele, Billboard has announced that Drake now holds the record for awards won in a single year. As can be seen, he may need a box carry all his trophies out with him.
Nominated 22 times during the event on May 21, Drake won 13 awards from the Billboard Music Awards show, beating out Adele who previously held the record after winning 12 back in 2012. Some of the awards that the performer brought home included Top Male Artist, Top Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Song Sales Artist, Top Rap Artist, among many others. In his acceptance speech, the rapper made sure to give a shout out to Ludacris to prove that their past disagreements were ended, and also professed his love for Nicki Minaj while he was at it (though that love didn’t stop him making eyes at Vanessa Hudgens earlier in the night).
Drake also gave an impressive performance of his song “Gyalchester” inside the famous Bellagio Fountains in Las Vegas to the approval of many in attendance and watching from their homes. The video of his, to say the least, explosive performance can be watched below.
