At this point, Toronto has proven itself a worthy Hip-Hop contributor thanks to the likes of Kardinal Offishall, Drake (including his OVO Sound imprint), Tre Mission and many others. Continuing that progression forward is 21-year-old emcee Reema Major, who has been dropping some notable cuts since she was a young teenager; this week, she liberates a new lyric visual for the heartfelt cut “AK47.”
On the track, the Sudanese refugee places a spotlight on war and violence by paying homage to another conceptual classic, which she explains:
I partially did it as a homage to Nas. The beat was the gasoline that resonated with me. The flame was the ideas that came after that. I’m from a place that has been plagued with war. And here in the America, we’ve been experiencing plenty of publicized instances of police violence. So this is my commentary on those situations.
Check out “AK47” below…the track is said to act as a pre-cursor for their forthcoming album LegenDiary, which sees production handled by Adrian & Lucas Rezza (Cee-Lo Green, Musiq SoulChild). You can check out even more from Reema Major here.
