Here’s a major surprise from this past week: the typically-elusive Frank Ocean has delivered a brand new track titled “Biking,” which features Odd Future mate Tyler, The Creator and current Hip-Hop crown-bearer JAY Z. The track — initially teased via trailer — was liberated during the third episode of Ocean’s blonded Radio show on Apple Music’s Beats 1.
One of the dopest takes from this multi-layered cut is the way all three artists use the culture of bikes (so to speak) to deliver a unique message: we see the idea of biking used as a metaphor for selling drugs (“handlebars like a Xanax…right quick, Nigel Sylvester with these bike flips”), spirituality and religion (“God gave you what you could handle…I got the grip like the handle and I’m bikin'”) and the cyclical pattern of life (“what goes around comes around”). There are a variety of double entendres that come with frequent listens of the song, showcasing just how amazing (and even iconic) this collaboration really is.
Check out “Biking” below, and listen to a full recap of blonded here; the guitar-driven number follows Ocean and A$AP Rocky‘s “Chanel“, which debuted on an earlier episode. Given the large amount of past work from these three (ex. “She,” “No Church In The Wild”), fans can certainly expect more of where this came from.
