Chaz French is definitely back and in full effect, a couple of years after the highly-rated These Things Take Time; in addition to restarting his momentum with “Way Out,” the D.C. area emcee is also now on Motown’s very bright roster (which also includes the likes of Lil Yachty, UK talent Angel and fellow D.C. native Kevin Ross). Now, Chaz moves forward with a new drop titled “Miss You (Freestyle).”
The track (and accompanying visual, which features Chaz’s mother and children) sees the artist at his most personal and heartfelt, speaking to his fans and loved ones about his hiatus, what he’s been through overall and what the game-plan is moving forward. He explains the cut — which was produced by S.K. & DJ Cruz and samples Harold Melvin and The Bluenotes‘ classic of the same name — to The FADER, who premiered the release:
It’s been longer than my fans or I would have liked for me to give them new songs and visuals. I just wanted to take this time to let them know, that I missed them during this time apart… At the same time, through this process of chasing the vision, my time with my children has also become limited. Had to do some soul searching to find the balance between Chaz the Dad and the rapper. Struggle what made us!
Enjoy “Miss You (Freestyle)” below. In related news, Chaz will also be providing some support for Wale’s SHiNE tour; the selected dates can be seen under the clip.
