The wave of unorthodox upbeat instrumentation in hip-hop (see “Broccoli” or “iSpy”) continues as Aston Rush speaks candidly and audaciously about a “Private Party.” Married to apathy for his “sides,” Aston describes a variety of scenarios in his life with women and people, likening sexual encounters (and any sort of personal interaction) as private parties with him.
The Understudy arranged the production, having previously collaborating with Aston on “Shorty Got Bandz.” The trio of producers introduced an iridescence in their art, departing from the dark, moody aesthetic typical to their work. Crystal Caines track with Ferg, “Whiteline” from two years back is the sonic antithesis of “Private Party.” Aston Rush rides the cheery instrumental with effortlessness and does so with confidence.
