It’s been a while since Wale announced his new album SHINE (Still Here Ignoring Negative Energy), and the D.C. rapper has made his frustrations over the album delay very clear. That hasn’t stopped him from satisfying his fans, though: over the last few months, Mr. Folarin has been consistently releasing infectious singles and lyrically-superior freestyles, including his response to J. Cole‘s “False Prophets” (“Groundhog Day“), the D’Angelo-sampling “Black Is Gold” and the Gold single “My PYT.”
Today, Wale brings forth an appetizer. Titled Before I Shine, the 11-track mixtape — which was created alongside Every Blue Moon’s DJ Luna — sees all of his previous loose cuts collected for one listen. In addition, Sneakbo, Afro B and past collaborator Eric Bellinger provide assistance. While these tracks have already been heard (“You Got It Freestyle” is the only new one), the high replay value makes for a listen sure to hold his fans over until SHINE finally sees the light of day.
