When it comes to the Washington, D.C. music scene, P.G. County (Maryland) has been responsible for many of the area’s current frontrunners — Jay IDK, Lil Dude (who recently appeared on Goldlink‘s new album) and the currently-incarcerated Big Flock are just a few of those artists that deserve widespread mention. As for rising star dopeSMOOTHIES, he’s looking to be that next name on the list with his new EP Waverunner, which sees full production from HDBi and features nine tracks of laid-back wavy tunes with subject matter ranging from love and relationships to one’s own insecurities. One such standout on the project (which also incorporates pop culture mainstays like Ice Cube’s Friday and the legendary video game Street Fighter) is the syrupy “Myspace,” a confident, slightly-pimpin’ track reminiscent of classic Smoke DZA (with a hint of Key!, or even 21 Savage in tone):
She say ‘what you do today’, I say I do this everyday
She like ‘so what you tryna say’, I’m like don’t throw this s*** away
I got the coldest chick today
I got the dopest s*** to play
When you hear this in your car, you gon’ wanna smoke a J
When you hear this s*** tomorrow, you won’t believe in yesterday…
Stream Waverunner below and purchase via iTunes. Also included is dopeSMOOTHIES’ latest visual for “S.D.S.”
