Split is a horror/thriller from M. Night Shyamalan starring James McAvoy, Anya Taylor-Joy and Haley Lu Richardson. McAvoy plays Kevin, a man with at least 23 different personalities. Compelled by one of his personalities, he abducts three teenage girls after they leave the mall with their dad. As the girl’s dad is loading up their bags, Kevin attacks and/or possibly kills him and gets in the driver seat of the car. He then sprays the girls with what we can assume is chloroform, and brings them to his underground holding cell.
THE FOLLOWING CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE MOVIE SPLIT. DO NOT READ FURTHER IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE MOVIE!
Turns out Split is a secret sequel to another M. Night Shyamalan movie.
At the end of the film we get a cameo from Bruce Willis as David Dunn, his character from the Shyamalan movie Unbreakable. In Unbreakable David Dunn learns that he has superpowers after an accident. At the end of ‘Split’ a diner patron after seeing Kevin on the news, mentions another crazy guy who got locked away but can’t remember his name. Dunn answers her question giving the name of his archenemy Elijah Price aka Mr. Glass.
It is safe to say that these movies are connected and exist within the same universe. How exactly these characters will collide is to be determined. A few theories are:
- Kevin and Mr. Glass end up meeting in a mental hospital and devise a plan to take out Dunn
- Dunn and Kevin will face off
Nothing has been confirmed except that Shyamalan has already penned 11 pages of the script! As per his tweet:
I have an 11 page outline for my next film in my bag. I can’t tell you what it is, but If you’ve seen #Split…

And recently he said the following:
Spent the morning writing and rewriting the outline for the next film. Starting to finally feel the rhythm of this story. #writerslife

Split has passed 200 million dollars worldwide so there is no doubt that this sequel will be greenlit. The question is when will we get it?
