New York City’s Hip-Hop scene is red-hot right now, thanks to the likes of Fat Joe and Remy Ma, Dave East and A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, among others. Here’s a new name to check out for 2017: Sean Scott, who has decided to pay homage to a classic posse cut with the DJ SwanQo-produced “Been Waiting”.
The track takes from Noreaga‘s ’98 single “Banned From T.V.” (which saw memorable performances from Nature, Cam’ron, Jadakiss, Styles P and the late Big Pun) and sees the Hell’s Kitchen artist on a nostalgic, in-your-face flow that’s clearly influenced by the aforementioned veterans in a good way….Scott definitely has no problem letting the listener know how dope (and how valuable) he is on the microphone, either:
I’m on top like a fitted cap, you’re beneath the kid
Bringing rappers straight to the grave, like a reaper is
…For a feature on a track, couple stacks
How many? Andre Benjamin to be exact (I need that)
See a flow is what I never lack
Let the record breathe when I’m on the track…
In addition, “Been Waiting” follows the haunting January drop “Can’t Nobody Touch Us” (produced by 12 Keyz), which takes on a more futuristic vibe and comes accompanied with a matching, dark visual…you can check both releases below. Sean Scott’s latest project — last year’s My Inception EP — can also be found here.
