Singer Adele may have taken the awards for song, record, and album of the year, but her own heart thought that at least a couple of the awards may have belonged elsewhere.
In the video clip you can watch below, you can see part of Adele’s acceptance speech for album of the year. She takes a long moment to give a huge shout out to Beyoncé‘s album Lemonade, which she states that she found incredibly inspiring not only for herself but for her Black friends as well. From Time, Adele had stated that “My dream and my idol is Queen Bey, and I adore you and you move my soul every single day and you have done for nearly 17 years, and I adore you and want you to be my mummy”. When it came time to accept the award, Adele had said that “she couldn’t possibly accept it” because the “Lemonade album was just so monumental, Beyoncé. It was so monumental and well thought-out and beautiful and soul-bearing… we appreciate that. All of us artists here adore you. You are our light.”
Beyoncé herself had made a fantastic, resplendent performance clad in gold and featuring her body showing her pregnancy. During Adele’s speech, she appeared very emotional about the praise, even shedding some tears by the end of it. See for yourself below.
