After the 2016 NFL regular season came to a close, the post season begins with the Wild Card games. On Sunday January 8, the New York Giants face the Green Bay Packers. Being the die hard Giants fan I am, I am afraid of facing Aaron Rodgers in the first round. Even though the Giants have reigned victorious against the Packers in previous years, I have a bad feeling about this year. This season, the Giants lost to Green Bay in the regular season. However, they only played one game this season. Even with people saying that the Giants have the best chance of winning, I think completely different.
The only aspect of the Giants that gives me the slightest amount of confidence is the Giants defense. New York is the host of the second best defense in the league behind the New England Patriots. As the season progressed, the Giants defense impressed me tremendously. The uprising of Janoris Jenkins has helped the Giants defense to no extent.
The part that makes me the most skeptical about this year’s Giants team is their offense. Eli Manning has proven to play well in the NFL play offs. However, after watching the Giants this year, the quarterback has not proven to be as prominent as he was previous seasons. For example, with Odell Beckham Jr. and Victor Cruz as Eli Manning’s wide receivers, the team under performed in passing yards ranking 17th in the league. Even though that is an average ranking for passing, with the elite play from his two wide receivers, the Giants should be higher. Eli Manning arguably has the best two wide receivers threats on his team. With the two wide receivers on his team, the Giants should have ranked higher than 17th in the league in passing.
Another reason that makes me nervous is the emergence of Aaron Rodgers’ game. In the beginning of the season, we were witnessing a possible decline of the Packers’ starting quarterback. However, he has turned his game around and is arguably the best quarterback in the league. Going into this game, I am scared about the impact he will have on this game.
