You don’t find many former Disney Channel stars acting in hip-hop biopics. Let alone a biopic about the legendary Tupac. Stefon Washington got his start in the industry as a singer and actor on the hit show Disney Channel Rocks. He eventually landed the role of Bad Boy Records founder, Puff Daddy. That is quite the transition. I got to chat with Stefon Washinton, who now goes by Stefon4u to discuss him landing the role in the upcoming Tupac biopic, All Eyez On Me.
RESPECT.: It was a big move for you to land the role of Puff Daddy in the ‘All Eyez On Me’ film. How did you feel getting that role?
Blessed. It happened by accident. I came in as an extra for the Death Row vs. East Coast scene. They were picking my hair out as I was in wardrobe. I didn’t get finished in time and they were already done with the scene about to send everyone home. I was walking heading out. A dude spotted me like,”you look more like Puff than the dude we have in the chair right now”. Jokingly, I started impersonating Puff. He laughed and asked me to go sit up stairs. After sitting up there, this lady came to get me as well as the original actor who was playing. She took us both to the executive producer, L.T. Hutton. She’s like, “this is the Puffy you originally had, but don’t this guy look more like Puff”. We took photos in the Puffy gear and Benny Boom seen them and told me to be on set in 10 minutes for rehearsal.
RESPECT.: With you just getting the role in 10 minutes, what did you do to prepare for it?
Let me tell you ho God works. A week before I ran into Hollywood actor Russell Hornsby.
He’s the black cat on Grim, the father on Lincoln Heights. I asked him how he has been around for so long. He advised me to just be myself and I remember everything he ever told me.
RESPECT.: Who were some of your favorite cast members to work with on set?
Demetrius was hilarious to me. He was one of the most amazing because this was his first movie. I wouldn’t have known that had I had actually known the fact of the matter. He was so good. He is going to blow a lot of minds with this movie.
RESPECT.: With you being born in the late 80’s, what is some of your favorite memories from the Death Row and Bad Boy era in the 90’s?
The cool part is I’m originally from Washington D.C. and we had a lot of the Bad Boy side. Especially with Puff going to Howard. And listening to Tupac now and then you realize that it is timeless.
RESPECT.: If you could give one word to describe the upcoming, ‘All Eyez On Me’ what would it be?
Legendary.
Alongside acting, Stefon4u is busy working on new music. Checkout his latest single “No Emotions” and it’s official video above.
