The performance that Mariah Carey put on for Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve was one to be talked about—though not in the way that she would have hoped.
Carey’s performance had been full of starts and stops which she blames on a faulty ear piece. While she was able to successfully start her show with a rendition of “Auld Lang Syne”, she stopped singing at times during her second song, “Emotions,” while everyone else involved in the performance continued without her. Further incidents occurred including ending the show with a pre-recorded track of “We Belong Together.”
Carey didn’t seem too perturbed by the incident, saying during the performance “We can’t hear…We didn’t have a sound check, but it’s New Year’s, baby. It’s OK, guys”. She later made a post on Twitter, which read:
S*** happens ? Have a happy and healthy new year everybody!? Here’s to making more headlines in 2017 ?
Representatives for Carey said that, while she complained of the non-functioning ear piece before the show, no move was made to fix it. There had been a rehearsal despite Carey’s comments of no sound check, though that had happened at an earlier time and not directly before the live performance, according to ABC.
While not the best way to ring in the new year, one can hope that the only way for Carey to go now is up for the rest of 2017.
