Jay Z may be the king of dodging questions we refuse to answer. With that being said, we should all take notes from him.
On Wednesday, Jay attended the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. He made an appearance at Sundance to promote Spike’s six-part docu-series Time: The Kalief Browder Story, in which Jay Z is one of the project’s screenwriters and executive producers.
Time follows the story of 22-year-old Kalief Browder who spent roughly three years inside Rikers Island without being convicted of a crime. At age 16, Browder was charged with stealing a backpack, then arrested in his Bronx hometown. Kalief fought the system proclaiming his innocence; however, once he left prison, his life circumstances lead him towards the rocky road of mental illness—and eventually suicide.
Jay Z actually met Browder after his Rikers Island stint, and shared with reporters at Sundance how their first meeting went. Here’s a video of it:
As evidenced in the video, some snarky reporter attempted to remove the focus of the docu-series to Jay Z’s thoughts on Donald Trump. A total reach on the reporter’s behalf, Jay Z respectfully curved the reporter’s question and walked away.
Fellow friend and executive producer Harvey Weinstein stepped in to end the Q&A following Jay’s footsteps.
The panel went smoothly despite the fielded Trump questions. Even Doug E. Fresh made an appearance to congratulate Jay’s success and promoting a positive image.
