One of a producer’s greatest gripes is coming to terms with the indefinite amount of places where a sample can be taken from. Swiff D once noted that he sampled the telephone call between him and one of his friends, Kanye made use of a 2000’s electronic song in what became “Freestyle 4,” The Weeknd made use of old Beach House songs to craft the dark, unruly sound which garnered his initial attention, and Dizzy Banko transformed “Falling Short” by English singer Låpsley into the instrumental for “Insecure,” with rhymes from Jae Tips.
While watching ABC’s Quantico, Jae found the original song and sent it over to Dizzy, who “turned it into this.” “Insecure” follows one of Jae Tips’ precarious relationships, and certain facets of the relationship which make one or both parties feel insecure about themselves- be it attention from fans and other people, or a preoccupation with other activities, finding a middle ground in a relationship with a constantly moving artist is definitely amongst one of the more difficult person to person relationships to maintain. Plenty music artists in and out of hip-hop have a similar story to share.
“Insecure” is coming off of Jae Tips’ upcoming Hypebeast 3 mixtape, which is set to arrive on February 13th. Keep up with Jae on Twitter, Instagram, and SoundCloud.
