When Biggie said “Dumb rappers need teaching,” he wasn’t talking about Big Piph.
The Arkansas rapper — real name, Chane Morrow — is a seasoned figure in the industry, having worked with major acts such as TI, Big Sean, and Snoop Dogg, besides putting out his own music and working on his own legacy project, an innovative crowd-funded venture that’s taken him a few years to perfect.
The Stanford-educated creative is changing the game with his latest, aptly titled The Legacy Project, an album conceptualized as an app. The first of its kind, the interactive album/app is a user-centric experience that seeks to engage with listeners beyond the usual digital platforms like YouTube, Facebook, SoundCloud, etc. It allows the listeners — and the artist — to control the experience. There are no changes in algorithms or terms of service that will dictate his engagement with fans. More importantly, it will allow the artist to deliver the fans the features — and the music — they want.
In today’s fast-paced soundscape where over-saturation and hyper-consumption means most albums have a relatively short life-span, TLP offers a creative way to increase the album’s longevity by offering the ability to add all kinds of interactive features that otherwise wouldn’t be available all in one place — audio, music videos, behind the scenes footage, interviews, and other bonus materials. Big Piph isn’t just creating an album; he’s offering listeners an entire — and enhanced — experience, via what’s in essence a “living” album.
So far, all the reviewers are rating it at five stars. Check it out for yourself, and let us know what you think. Learn more about TLP here, and download TLP on the app store and on Google Play, Watch a trailer for TLP here.
