Much like neighboring city Washington, D.C., Baltimore has been brewing a lot of heat as of recent months, thanks to artists like Tate Kobang, A$AP Ant and even long-standing success story King Los. Today, the revelation of talent continues with 19-year-old newcomer Don Neil, who has liberated an inspirational new single titled “I’m Weak.”
The track mixes the warm, snapping production — which comes courtesy of UK beatsmith Lewis Cullen — with Neil’s melodic lyrics, which could be reminiscent of Virginia star D.R.A.M. in regards to positive and fun subject matter that can also be found at any house party or dance floor:
…I’ve been on my grown up s***…
‘Cause I’ve been on my college s***…Whoa mama I’ma make you proud…
Our whole city bout too get loud…
I know you want me to be the best thing in the world I could ever be…
Neil’s lyrics on the track give off the vibe of a young man determined to succeed in his endeavors with the support of his family, while — as heard in the chorus — casting off the doubters and haters who won’t be satisfied until he concedes to failure:
They won’t be happy until I drop to my knees and say I’m weak…
With the right push, expect this groove to make it’s round in and around university campuses all over the country.
Check out “I’m Weak” below. The track is said to appear on Don Neil’s forthcoming debut EP Dear Me, which drops November 15th via DOPE Digital.
