Set in his childhood home in Houston, TX, De’Wayne Jackson recounts the struggles of making something of himself. They say success changes the people around you, but it becomes a startling reality for Jackson when “[his] best friend left [his] side.” He refuses to lose his sense of self just for the limelight. His upbringing influenced by his grandmother and father shaped the man he is and he shouldn’t let new fame get in the way of where he’s headed.

“Never Change,” is motivation for the rising star to trust his journey while holding on to his faith. Jackson aggressively attacks the beat, produced by Tha Bizness, displaying believable storytelling skills. Yet, he adds texture to the song by transitioning between rapping on his verses to singing on the hook. The 20-year-old artist has the ability to package his thoughts in a concise and creative manner turning negative situations into opportunities for growth. Despite being in the shadows of doubters and naysayers, Jackson is ambitious to make his mark in hip hop. Closing out his verse, he confidently voices, “Its just a matter of time before this sh*t pop, the art of hiphop, you talking about the kid thats risked his life for what you read about.”
