As the protege to Hip Hop mogul, Nas, Dave has been filling some pretty big shoes since early on in his career. The Mass Appeal rapper discussed what it’s been like having Nas as a mentor, and as the executive producer of his upcoming debut album.
“Nas is going to be the Executive Producer on the album, so we really been just locking in with beats, and just different ideas. We recorded a couple of joints together…” he explained.
East shares that he’s been inspired by originators of the NYC sound including Jim Jones, Jadakiss, Styles P, and more.Having only dedicated about five to six years to rapping, Dave East is arguably one of the hardest lyricists in this era of Hip Hop. Not priding himself with melodic mumbling, but instead delivery quality bars and connecting with fans through real life situations. He shares the influence that being a Harlem, NY native has had on his style of music, skill set, and fashion. Like any other creative, Dave admitted in the interview that he may have exaggerated a bit on “Keisha” (the “Warning” esque track) on his new EP.
