Tupac Shakur is still remembered as one of the most influential artist of the generation. This year marks the 20th Anniversary of his passing. What better way to approach the end of 2016 than with a nomination for the 2017 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?
Tupac is on the ballot for the first time ever after becoming eligible this year. Other major acts on the ballot include Janet Jackson, Journey, Yes, Bad Brains, Pearl Jam, Jane’s Addiction, The Cars, and Kraftwerk.
To be eligible for nomination, an individual artist or band must have released their first single or album at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination. The 2017 nominees had to release their first recording no later than 1991, and this year marks Tupac’s first round of eligibility.
Tupac’s debut album 2pacalypse Now was released on November 12, 1991. The album has reached platinum status selling over 1 million units.“Brenda’s Got A Baby” is the solo debut single which was released on October 20, 1991.
Fans are allowed to vote online for their favorite acts, with the top five acts typically gaining entry. The winners will be announced in December with an induction ceremony taking place in April 2017.
