The internet has made it possible for people to connect with another from all parts of the country and even the world. Naturally, this expanded into many different facets including the music industry, specifically Hip-Hop. In the ’80s, ’90s and early 2000’s, each region for the most part had a distinct sound. New York and most of the east coast had a grimy, more lyrically driven sonic approach while California and the west had a funky, sample heavy sound that focused on rhythm more than anything. And then there was the south, namely New Orleans who created a heavy bounce sound that even the thugs can rock to when No Limit and Cash Money rose to prominence. Once the internet hit strong, that all changed. People from different regions were connecting and collaborating, paving the way for NYC rappers to rap like they’re from Texas, or even a kid from Berkley, California named $t33z channeling his inner Hot Boy, intentional or not, for the track “Dolla$ign Bars“.
Meshing the southern bounce sound with stout bars like, “Muscle in, yeah it’s time to get my flex on/ Actually I’m glad that I’m slept on/ Shawty gave the crew head call that neck bones/ Yeef got the beat boomin’ like Metro“, the 18-year-old California native taps into a classic sound that was created more than 2,000 miles away from him. Still, he owns it with a fierce confidence and a smooth demeanor fit for a veteran. “I’m currently working on a lot of upcoming projects,” $t33z told RESPECT., “But until they’re done, expect some more fire singles from me.” The confidence will be a defining attribute for the young emcee.
