Bossalena is preparing to release her new, highly anticipated project, Y.O.L.O. So far in 2016 she’s released music with YFN Lucci, Boosie Badazz, Ralo and more. We sat down with her to discuss her future plans, her musical influences, and what we can expect from her next major release; read more below…
RESPECT.: Tell us about some of the things you’ve been working on besides your latest single?
I’ve been working on a project called Y.O.L.O. (You Only Live Once). It originally started as an EP with 7 songs. But we decided to expand it to a full project with 10 songs. I have guest features from YFN Lucci, Ralo, Boosie Badazz, and a few others. I’m really excited about it.
RESPECT.: What are some of the advantages and disadvantages of being a female artist in 2016?
My advantage is that I’m different. I’m authentic because I’m not bringing the same as any other female in the game. I rap about the struggle and everyone can relate to that in some way. No matter where you’re from. My disadvantage is the same thing that any artist faces, you have to have money. Nothing comes free, male or female you have to be ready to invest in yourself.
RESPECT.: So you’re stranded on an island and you can only bring 3 albums, what are you bringing and why?
I would pick what I’ve been listening to lately. Which is Young Thug’s album “Jeffery”. Gucci’s “Everybody Looking”. Tink’s “Diary”. I pick these three because it has a mix of every emotion. They’re all doing their thing in 2016 so I’m excited for them.
RESPECT.: Have you been following the presidential election, what are your thoughts on the candidates?
I haven’t been following it to be honest, but I feel like Donald Trump shouldn’t have any say so on anything going on in our country. He has no experience whatsoever that qualifies him to be in the White House.
RESPECT.: Alabama isn’t as known musically as say NYC, LA, and Atlanta. Who are some notable artists from the state besides yourself? Both past and present.
I actually feel like the entire state of Alabama is doing their thing, I’ve heard different stuff from Glocc 40, a lot of people in my city are working too.
RESPECT.: Tell us what you can about your next project you plan to release, Y.O.L.O.
We haven’t announced the actual date yet but with the features that we have and the quality of music we know it’s gonna do well. It’s called YOLO, and it’s basically about me chasing my dreams despite all of the let downs I’ve face in life. You’ll love it.
Thanks for your time girl, we wish you all the best!
