Racial tensions in America have been more evident in 2016, than in the past 25 years. No matter what side of the fence you’re on, one thing we can all agree on is the amount of hate that’s being spewed is alarming. One thing that has always been able to bring people together though, is music. It’s also the platform that many have chosen to speak up about injustices that may be plaguing their communities. South Carolina 2Ru3 is one of those artists, and in nowhere is this more apparent than on the video for his single, “The People” off of his debut EP, Alpha (The Beginning).
Meshing his monotoned raps with a surprisingly on key singing voice, 2Ru3 visits topics police brutality, oppression, and greed while examining their real effect on the community. Utilizing gut-wrenching images and videos that showcase exactly the words that he’s speaking, “The People” brings you face to face with the reality that many have to face on a daily basis. “The message of this song is so important to me because it’s the real deal,” the South Carolina native tells RESPECT., “the biggest impact we can make on positive changes is by working together, not by being divided and fighting each other.” 2Ru3 also mentioned a project in the works. “I’m working on a new single titled, “Hip-Hop (Still Livin’)” that will be released with T-shirts to support the meaning.” says 2Ru3. When talking about his next project he said, “I actually have a few songs written where I’m strictly singing,” he says, “So who knows? That might be on the next project that I release.”
