Earlier this month, Kid Cudi revealed to the world that he had checked himself into rehab for “depression and suicidal urges,” revealing much of what lived in his earlier music:
“I am not at peace. I haven’t been since you’ve known me. If I didn’t come here, I wouldve done something to myself. I simply am a damaged human swimming in a pool of emotions everyday of my life. Theres a ragin violent storm inside of my heart at all times.”
While he works on getting better, his team will continue gives the fans music and visuals leading up to the release of his forthcoming album Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’ (which was supposed to be released last month, but was delayed due to sample clearances).
Here’s the latest: Cudi’s new visual for “Frequency,” a track he recently released alongside the Pharrell Williams-assisted “Surfin”. The clip — directed by the artist himself — sees Cudi traversing through a trippy jungle environment, filled with beautiful women and Super Mario-sized mushrooms (all matching both the dark, crawling production as well as the drug-infused lyrics of the single).
You can watch the video below. As far as Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’, while we don’t yet have a new release date, we do know that (in addition to Pharrell) the album will feature the likes of André 3000, Travi$ Scott and Willow Smith. You can check out the full tracklisting for the project here.
