Jay Z is set to partner with the Weinstein Company for the upcoming biopic of the late comedian Richard Pryor in Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said? The biopic is scheduled to start filming in early 2017. Jay Z will be credited as a producer for the film. Mike Epps will star as the comedian himself. The biopic has confirmed appearances from Oprah Winfrey, Eddie Murphy, Kate Hudson and Mike Epps as the comedian himself.
The script has been written by Bill Condon. The title of the movie is taken from Pyror’s Grammy-winning live album, Is it Something I Said? released in 1975.
“His story is an American story,” the Roc Nation executive said in a Rolling Stone article. “You’ll understand how many lives he’s touched, from every single comedian to rappers like Biggie Smalls, who I won’t recite the lyric because we’ve got Ms. Browder in the audience. But y’all know the lyrics.”
