The Meadows Music and Arts Festival may be coming to end, but one thing is for sure, J. Cole definitely killed the stage as headline act on Saturday (Oct 1st), which he announced would be his “last show for a very long time.”
The news clearly shocked the crowd who expressed their disappointment in response. One fan shouted, “New album” whilst another woman reacted with a “No!” The Dreamville rapper has been performing at several festivals throughout the summer, and the run has come to an end for now for Cole. Of course, this allows for speculation to set in. Could the rapper be taking time out to make a new album much like the festival-goer shouted? Cole certainly has a history of building up anticipation with his records.
The 2014 Forest Hills Drive rapper also recently hinted at thoughts of retirement in the track, “Jermaine’s Interlude” from DJ Khaled’s recent album Major Key which the North Carolina native features on.
“How the f**k do I look/When I brag to you about some diamond?/Said all that I could say/Now I play with thoughts of retirement”
Cole certainly is making a pretty penny from his hard work and couldn’t be blamed for being financially secure enough to retire. The Roc Nation artist racked up $8.8million in total revenue from his music last year according to Billboard.
