The wait is over, and it looks like New York music is back on the rise. Less than 24 hours after appearing on Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club, where he announced that he’s signed with Def Jam Recordings, 2016 XXL Freshman Dave East has officially released his debut album, Kairi Chanel on Friday (Sept. 30).
“I feel it’s my best work to date. I named it after my daughter, because she’s the greatest and most defining moment of my life,” East told Billboard.
Kairi Chanel is filled with hard-hitting tracks and raw lyrics. “It Was Written” begins with a theatrical introduction in which East pays respect to his mentor Nas as the torch is passed to east. Kairi Chanel, tells the story about his come-up with bass-knocking beats and authentic trailblazing stories.
“Type of Time” leads the listener on the road as East prominently shares his life’s ambition and his gritty rise through the Harlem projects chasing his ambition to pursue his music full-time.
Dave East has a few notable features on Kairi Chanel. He recruits, and pays homage to Harlem legend Cam’ron for “S.D.E.” featuring the man himself. His hard-hitting vocals and precision across bass-filled beats brings back the 90’s and early 00’s vibe of New York hip-hop.
The leading single for the album “Keisha”. Dave East tells the story of a situation when all of the right things are happening in his situation of meeting an urban female from outside his neighborhood. As the story escalates, the female leads him along a road as she seduces him as he goes in for the win. She leaves him vulnerable as she turns the tables on him as she plotted on his steady rise from the beginning. Other features on East’s album include, 2 Chainz, Fabolous, The Game, Beanie Sigel, Sevyn Streeter and Jazzy Amra.
Kairi Chanel is executive produced by his Mass Appeal mentor, Nas, who will still executive produce future projects for East in a joint venture with Mass Appeal and Def Jam recordings.
