There’s a saying that says “Family is your worst enemy.” And this can’t be anymore right in the case of Malik Obama, President Barack Obama‘s half-brother. Malik has decided to forego his brothers slogan of “Change we can believe in” to “Make America Great Again.” Yup, he’s voting for Presidential nominee, Donald Trump. This comes as a surprise to basically everyone; including Trump:
Wow, President Obama's brother, Malik, just announced that he is voting for me. Was probably treated badly by president-like everybody else!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 24, 2016
Is it a strategy to throw off the campaign? Or revenge of some sort? Not quite for sure, but Malik Obama believes in Trump and had this to say about his decision:
“I will support Donald Trump because he is a humble and honest guy, “He is a guy who can help people. It’s an opportunity for Americans to give Trump a chance to become president.”
Okay, whatever you say Malik. I mean everyone is entitled to their own opinion and have the right to exercise their own right to vote for whomever they may in this upcoming election but I can’t help but to wonder, “Has he really been listening to the Donald Trump that we all have been listening too since his bid for presidency?”
According to USA Today, Malik Obama stated he feels President Obama hasn’t done enough while in office to help Kenyans and the rest of the African continent.
“I love President Obama, because he is my brother, “But Obama is a hypocrite. He is not helping us at all. … Obama has done nothing for this family for the last eight years. We have been waiting for his help in vain.” Malik Obama
Obama’s father was from Kogelo, Kenya. Obama is not close with his dad’s side of the family, outside of Malik and another half sister. Despite Malik’s opinion of his brother regarding his absence during his eight years as president, the village of Kogelo has prospered in the years since Obama took office in 2009. The village has gotten electricity, paved roads and other major improvements and facilities. There is also a foundation named after the President’s step-grandmother called the Mama Sarah Obama Foundation in which cares for widows and orphans whom lost spouses and/or parents to HIV/AIDS. Malik Obama started a foundation entitled the Barack H. Obama Foundation, which develops sources of clean drinking water. There are also two schools in the village that is named after the President.
Other Kenyan’s also share the same feelings as Malik, but Obama’s cousin Nicholas Rajula stated that they will support Presidential nominee, Hillary Clinton.
While most may think President Obama has not given his best support to the village, if they really take a look around they will be able to see and know that while his “natural” presence hasn’t been seen, his inward presence has definitely showed up in many ways than one.
