Quarterback, Colin Kaepernick may not have the support of most people and some fans alike, but there is one person who is standing by his decision of sitting during the National Anthem, and that’s President Barack Obama.
According to ABC news, President Obama– who was in Hangzhou, China at the time of the incident– stated during a news conference that Kaepernick was just “exercising his constitutional right” not to stand for the national anthem. President Obama stated that while he has not been paying close attention to Kaepernick’s protest, he has no doubt that Kaepernick is sincere and “cares about some real, legitimate issues that have to be talked about.” Kaepernick’s refusal to stand during the national anthem is regarding his protest against the United States and it’s mistreatment against African Americans and minorities.
Kaepernick was not alone in his decision to not take a stand as Eric Reid, his teammate joined him in his stance. Seattle Seahawks cornerback, Jeremy Lane sat down during the playing of the national anthem at a preseason game last week. Women’s soccer player, Megan Rapinoe kneeled during the national anthem stating that it was “a nod to Kaepernick.”
Kaepernick has celebrity supporters as well such as J. Cole, who wore Kaepernick’s #7 Jersey at a show over the weekend.

Since his stance, it is reported that Kaepernick’s jersey has been flying off the shelves, making it a top seller in the NFL Shop

“There’s a lot of things that need to change, “One specifically? Police brutality. There’s people being murdered unjustly and not being held accountable. People are being given paid leave for killing people. That’s not right. That’s not right by anyone’s standards.” Colin Kaepernick
It’s said that if you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything. Cheers to Kaepernick for standing up for what he believes in and for not falling down to what others may think or say due to his actions.
