Nick Gordon has been held “legally responsible” for his girlfriend Bobbi Kristina Brown‘s death. Brown, the daughter of Whitney Houston, died in July 2015 after being in a medically induced coma for for six months.
Brown’s estate filed a wrongful death civil suit against Gordon, accusing him of assault and battery — along with a slue of other charges. Gordon will now face a jury trial.
The lawyer to Brown’s estate, R. David Ware, said “In court today, we finally finished a long journey for justice for Bobbi Kristina Brown.”
“The court agrees with us, by striking Mr. Gordon’s answer that he is legally responsible for her death. The only thing left to prove is the value of her life. We intend to do that,” Ware said outside the court on Friday.
According to Rolling Stone, police found Brown face down in her bathtub in January 2015. Brown’s estate filed a lawsuit a month after her death. The lawsuit named Gordon responsible for having given Brown a “toxic cocktail” before the incident.
A source from the Brown family told People Magazine “We miss her every single day. Even when there’s justice, it’s not comfort. She was gone too soon, and we all have to live with that. I hope Nick lives with it every day for the rest of his life, because we sure are.”
With the question of whether Gordon could have been found criminally or civilly liable, the legal storm is still unavoidable.
Ware spoke of the lawsuit, saying “It’s not a criminal case but it doesn’t have to be. We want to legally establish he was responsible for her injuries the proceeded her death and we’ve done that today.”
