Yesterday, British electronic music producer Mura Masa released a remix of his incredibly popular song “Lovesick” featuring Lord Pretty Flacko Jodye himself, AKA A$AP Rocky. Although “Lovesick” makes for a very unorthodox hip-hop instrumental, the harlem native wastes no time going in on everything from promethazine to public relationships. In classic Rocky fashion, he couldn’t help but spit some lyrics regarding an unfaithful lady friend: “Yeah I heard she got a man, homie/And yeah, he wanna lay the hands on me/But you should see the way she dance on me/Wishin’ I ain’t have no pants on me.”
Mura Masa explains how the collaboration came about, when he noticed that Rocky was going to be in London for a couple of days. “Rocky was actually in London for a couple of days and I wanted to make him feel like I was taking the collaboration seriously, so I booked us into Abbey Road, Studio 2, and we met up there for a couple of hours and he did his thing. It was a hell of a good time hanging out in such a legendary space with him, very surreal. The track originally was about sex and how I was feeling after a particularly empty encounter with a friend told through a kind of twisted-pop, calypso, hip hop dance track. Rocky kind of ran with that and took it to this lovelorn, exotic place. He totally injected his energy into it.”
