As we reported back in August, Margot Robbie who plays Harley Quinn in DC’s Suicide Squad movie has been pushing for a spin-off movie centered around her character. Now there is news that Robbie has signed for a first-look deal to develop and produce films through her LuckyChap Entertainment banner, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The actress had become quite attached to her work as Harley Quinn, saying that “I’m so not done playing her yet,” and that “I will do whatever I can to keep playing Harley for another couple of years. Until my body gives out and I can’t do it anymore.” Complex mentions that, while not much is known about the spin-off yet, there will definitely be “other DC heroines.” Whether this includes the good guys, the bad guys, or the ones in between has yet to be released, but we are very excited to see who will appear next. It is reported that this spin-off and other recent film plans are part of the movement to include more women and female-driven stories in the studio. The overdue inclusivity will make a nice difference for the audience, as most of the superhero and supervillain movies and shows that currently exist are focused on the meta-men of the super-universes.
Robbie herself will be the executive producer of the project, and will no doubt give us the best Harley Quinn she can give.
