Houston rapper, Mardi unveils his brand new project, August The Ride. Setting out to create a body of work that recaps the emotions of summer, Mardi focuses on the nostalgia that one feels when you reminisce on summer memories, the bitter sweet feelings of summer’s ending, and anticipation for the fall. Themes of impatience, hardships, and bad events paint the project’s storyline with an optimistic upshot in summer months, a time for escape and positive position.
Featuring production acclaims from Nova, Dreamchild, Cian P, and Millz Douglas, the project is a fruition of growth, introspection, and passions from 2015 up until now. August The Ride is an inevitable ride of bumps and bruises, all of which make life unpredictable yet buoyant.
Mardi aka Mardi Lex, is a twenty-year-old artist from Houston. The lone-star was born to Nigerian parents who played a lot of music around him growing up, from the Afro-beat sounds of Fela Kuti to the likes of 50 Cent and Eminem. He has been exposed to a multitude of cultures, as a result of him moving around state to state and country to country by virtue of his parents’ careers. This exposure has given him the tools to create a refined cross-genre hip hop sound with influences from a wide range of artists, and content personal to his character that gives light to a quiet millennial perspective.
Mardi currently attends Purdue University working on an Engineering degree, but focused on music, to prove to himself and the world that anything is possible within his generation, and that anybody can be who they really want to be if they work at it. He names his influences to be Nas, 50 Cent, Nipsey Hussle, Dipset, Jay-Z, Mac Miller, Kid Cudi, Kurt Cobain, and Toro Y Moi. Mardi currently resides in the Midwest, working between Indiana and Chicago, but plans on relocating to the West Coast. Mardi aspires to be the greatest artist of his generation, and plans on breaking even more walls between genres.
