The NBA has been a source of delight for me over the many years that I have been watching basketball. I look forward to the NFL season, MLB season and Premier League Soccer. However, I look forward to the NBA season every year, except for this one. Kevin Durant’s move to the Golden State Warriors has put me in a state of major concern.
My love for the NBA has derived from the concept of competition. Most teams in the NBA would be able to compete against any team and be able to put up a legitimate fight. Looking at the current situation haloing the NBA, I question if a team will be able to put up a formidable fight against the star studded Golden State Warriors. The only team that could potentially compete with the 73-9 team are the Cleveland Cavaliers. But unfortunately, with the greatness of LeBron James, the ball handling skills of Kyrie Irving, and the aggressive rebounding of Tristan Thompson, it still begs the question if this is enough to beat the Warriors.
Let’s have a what if scenario: what if the Golden State Warriors are unbeatable in the NBA, and win two championships. At this point the Golden State Warriors would be dominating the league. With them being the sure pick to winning a championship, other superstar players would become free agents. To compete and possibly win a championship, they would either have to start a dynasty of their own with another franchise, join the Golden State Warriors, or hope to be the missing piece that Cleveland needs and join the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Now why would this be scary for an NBA fan like me? With superstars possibly teaming up to become Golden State’s kryptonite, the league will have two teams with all the superstars. The only teams that will compete against each other would be Golden State and Cleveland, in my opinion. I’m scared for the NBA to transform into a league similar to La Liga. Real Madrid and Barcelona are the only teams in the football league with All-Stars at every position. Being the NBA fan that I am, that would be my worst nightmare.
