Good news: get your headphones out! Frank Ocean‘s blonde, an Apple exclusive, is now available to stream on Spotify.
The long awaited album kept us waiting still, as we were left Frank-less without an Apple music account (or signing up for their one month trial).
The broody album has been out for three weeks now, meaning that Frank’s Spotify-using fans will have to catch up quickly.
Exclusivity in albums is more and more common since the creation of Tidal. The Life of Pablo, Lemonade, and Twenty88 all premiered on Tidal this year. These kinds of releases make a subscription necessary if you want to keep up with your favorite artists.
Frank Ocean went the Apple Music route, which gave all of his fans the incentive to start up their own accounts.
This is good news for the music industry, as they can lure subscribers. For the artists, they presumably make more (well-deserved) money for their work that is usually streamed and downloaded for free.
These kinds of releases are almost always passed on to other streaming companies, like Spotify, a few weeks after. We waited for Frank’s album for years — what’s another three weeks.
