Carol City native Denzel Curry most recently unveiled Imperial, a free project of 10 songs which touched on his Nostalgic 64 persona- a much more belligerent and one than shown on 32 Zel/Planet Shrooms– and sociopolitical issues about traumatizing events in the voracious Carol City, as well as more personal ones concerning life and death.
A part of the track listing was a song called “Gook,” which is actually lingo for “a person who doesn’t fit the norm,” as opposed to the derogatory term for Southeast and East Asians (quite the way to grab attention). The song is perhaps most notable for the line in the hook which reads:
“I don’t f**k with Purp/That’s the only reason Yams died,”
A very clear reference to Curry’s feud with Spaceghostpurrp, as well as the death of A$AP Mob founder A$AP Yams, which occurred around a year prior to the release of Imperial.
Denzel Curry recently released the visual for “Gook,” which features him and his crew mobbing in an abandoned ground of some sort, filled with graffiti and fallen objects on the ground. The visual has the same element of solidarity that the video for “ULT” had.
