The hysteria surrounding Colin Kaepernick is an abundance of moral clashes and misconceptions about “proper” methods of policing, and the “proper” methods of protest. Not too long ago, Kaepernick shined through in the news over his silent kneel during the national anthem- a protest of pervasive police violence and the disenfranchisement of Blacks in America. Despite being united under that one flag, there’s undeniably plenty of room for reevaluation and reconstruction.
Alongside the news headlines and voracious tirades via Facebook wall posts, the 49ers quarterback also received death threats recently, most likely as a reaction to what some perceive as him “disrespecting America.” Death threats are unequivocally warrants for fear and paranoia, but Kaepernick stood by his words, and instead greeted the numerous threats with a gallant statement. As reported by USA Today, Kaepernick said:
“If something like that were to happen, you’ve proved my point…. It’ll be loud and clear for everyone why it happened, and that would move this movement forward at a greater speed than what it is even now.”
He continued his cavalier statement with:
“Granted, it’s not how I want it to happen, but that’s the realization of what could happen. I knew there were other things that came along with this when I first stood up and spoke about it. It’s not something I haven’t thought about.”
