Amir Obé released his new single “No Peace” yesterday, keeping with his angsty style in the song that was produced by NYLZ.
The Detroit rapper’s melancholy song is about a love gone wrong. In an email with Fader, Obé says that, “It’s the back and forth of a tortured love. A woman pulling me into her depths and unknowingly drowning me in the process. This is an expression of my suffocation.”
With lyrics such as:
Pour my heart out to the floors now
Treat your love like a drug, I been drugged out
Treat your feeling like a target bring em guns out
it is easy to have an insight to what he was feeling as he sings about it between the lyrics and the melody. The empathy will hopefully stop short of the lyrics “Let the bodies hit the floor now,” however.
The song has a somber, smoother melody for the beginning before suddenly picking up around the middle into more of a reggae style. This changes the mood of the song from something dramatic and into something that feels more hopeful, making the listener hope that Obé will find a love that will make him feel happy and less murderous.
