Young Thug, born Jeffery Lamar Williams, insists that his name will only be “Jeffery” for one week, following the release of his project of the same name.
On the Rap Radar podcast, 300 Entertainment Founder Lyor Cohen told hosts Elliott Wilson and Brian “B.Dot” Miller that Young Thug would be rebranding himself under a different name. The name, as hinted by his upcoming project’s title, is going to be as follows: No, My Name is Jeffery. The name, as a whole, sounds like the contingent, memorized response when fans, artists, and industry folk refer to Young Thug by his “previous” alias:
“You’re Young Thug, right?” “No, my name is Jeffery.”
Plenty of artists and people are prone to being interested from a multitude of outlooks at once, and at different times; sometimes the way this translates in day to day life is in the form of a name change, or reconstruction. Kendrick Lamar once famously spit: “I can tell you what it is, I can tell you what it isn’t/No more K. Dot, my mother had named me Kendrick.”
On the subject of the switch up, Thugger remarked, ““I’m Jeffery for one f**king week. If I don’t sell a 100,000 copies,” to which Travi$ Scott, who was interviewing him at the time, said, “Let that be known. Let that be stated. We goin’ for 100,000 first week. I’m doing my verse tonight.”
The public is unsure whether the name change is tentative or permanent- or fiction or reality. What is for sure, though, is that the next few weeks are going to be an interesting bunch for Young Thug and company.
