A third installment of the Bad Boys franchise is on the way and expected to open the box office in Winter 2018. Martin Lawrence and Will Smith will return to the big screen as Miami PD’s Marcus Burnett and Mike Lowery.
Initially set to be titled Bad Boys III, Sony decided to change the film’s name to Bad Boys For Life, according to Entertainment Weekly. The film has had three expected release dates in the last year, originally set for Feb. 17, 2017 then June 2, 2017 and now January 12, 2018. A source revealed to the news site that Bad Boys 4 is slated for a July 3, 2019 release. The original two blockbuster movies, Bad Boy and Bad Boys II, were released in 1995 and 2003.
“I just talked to producer Jerry Bruckheimer yesterday and he said it’s real, they’re working on the script, they’re getting close, and it all looks good,” said Lawrence on a 2014 appearance on TBS’ Conan.
The name change reportedly comes from a line in the 2003 sequel, when Detective Mike Lowery tells Detective Burnett, “We ride together, we die together. Bad Boys for life.”
