Yikes!
Jason Mitchell, the actor who wowed us in the 2015 blockbuster, Straight Outta Compton, is being investigated for the attack of a woman. The incident occurred early on Monday at the Ritz Carlton in Boston, where the two reportedly got into a physical fight.
Complex reported that the 29-year-old actor “body slammed” the 18-year-old woman after she slapped Mitchell resulting in the amateur WWE move. The report alleges that the woman was denied from a private party. She then struck the the budding actor out of anger, which caused Mitchell to retaliate.
Mitchell, from New Orleans, portrayed the rapper Eazy-E in the NWA biopic. He received tons of critical acclaim, as he won awards from the African-American Film Critics Association and the Black Film Critics Circle Awards. The Eazy-E doppelgänger & his co-starring buddies also received plenty of acclaim from fans as well.
Mitchell, and his fellow NWA actors, were nominated for multiple other awards for their performances in Straight Outta Compton. It was generally noted that the film should have been nominated for an Oscar but the dream was killed. The Oscars were then called out for their lack of diversity, further fuelling the #OscarsSoWhite controversy.
As of now, the Louisiana native has not been arrested, but the police are looking into the incident to figure out what exactly happened, and how to proceed. Mitchell has also been banned from the Ritz hotel in Boston.
Yesterday, amid the accusations, Mitchell tweeted the cryptic words:
“your light is meant to shine bright don’t dim yours to make others feel comfortable.”
The tweet’s lack of relevance doesn’t clue us in on what happened. Whether or not the actor is shaken up from the incident, or will comment on and acknowledge the accusations, is yet to be confirmed.
