Lyricism has taken a backseat to aesthetic nowadays, it’s just time to face facts. Most, not all, millennial Hip-Hop fans prefer the lyrics that are easier to sponge, as opposed to the more intricate wordplay that was once so heavily loved. This has caused many many talented wordsmiths to fly under the radar and go unnoticed. Houston duo, 3Bubble & J. Gray are trying to break from that notion with their soulful project, Live From The Pentagon.
Utilizing funk inspired sounds, and bars about governmental corruption, 3Bubble & J. Gray have been loosely compared to fellow Southern natives, Outkast. Though it’s hard to compare anybody to such a legendary duo, Gray & Bubble exhibit similar sonic qualities throughout the 13-track-project. Spitting complex bars over live instruments, the duo delivers an organic sounding project in a time where many releases have become stale and hard to differentiate from the others.
This is the first project from the duo, though it may not sound as such. Standout tracks from the tape are: “Easy“, “Don’t Lie“, and the Kelechi assisted track “Euros” which features the 3 artists effortlessly trading bars about the struggles that they’ve faced on the way to realizing their dreams. The signature track, though, from the album has to be, “No Lie“. The track, which is 3:29 long, is a beautiful track about perseverance that will have you motivated and ready for whatever troubles your day may have ahead.
Check out, Live From The Pentagon below, and be sure to keep an eye on the Houston natives.
