Apparently not even our own 3-time Olympic Gold Medalist, Gabby Douglas can catch a break from twitter trawls. If you have been paying attention to this years Olympic games, which are currently taking place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, you probably would of noticed that during the playing of the Star Spangled Banner on Tuesday, gymnast Gabby Douglas failed to place her hand over her heart.
Douglas was then ripped apart on social media for standing with her hands by her side just right after she and her teammates received their gold medals.
How dare Gabby Douglas not put her hand on her heart for the American National Anthem!!!!

Um, Gabby Douglas. Why is your hand not on your heart during our National Anthem? ? #teamusa #finalfive

Yet despite not needing to defend her actions, Douglas still took to twitter to clarify that “she never meant any disrespect.”
“First I want to say thank you to everyone for all your support! It’s a huge honor for me to be able to represent #TeamUSA,” Douglas tweeted last night. “In response to a few tweets I saw tonight, I always stand at attention out of respect for our country whenever the national anthem is played. I never meant any disrespect and apologize if I offended anyone. I’m so overwhelmed at what our team accomplished today and overjoyed that we were able to bring home gold for our country!”

Michael Phelps
Kristin Armstrong
Simone Manuel
Molly Hannis,
and Gabby Douglas herself who are just a part of the few players who have won gold medals so far for the U.S.A
